I am thrilled to announce that my first solo exhibition at the stunning Qdos in Lorne opens on Sunday 1st December!!
While the abstracted landscapes featured in previous bodies of work generally arise from an idealised or imaginary impression of the natural world, the paintings in this exhibition reference a number of potent physical locations along the Great Ocean Road and in the Otway Forest surrounding Lorne.
To echo the practice of the Shanshui (mountain-water) artists, rather than creating a representational view of a specific location in nature, I am more intent on portraying the experience, the awareness of inner reality and the sense of connection and unity that arises through meditation in nature.
This 'hero image' on the invitation above depicts one of these potent places - ‘Jebbs Pool’, a picturesque swimming hole in Cumberland River near Lorne, Victoria. While the name ‘Jebbs Pool’ conjures imagery of early pioneer settlement, the spirit of the Gadubanud (King parrot) people living in the region for thousands of years is incredibly strong in this region.
I do hope you can save the date to your diary and come along to help launch this new exhibition of paintings at 3pm on Sunday 1st December. 🍷🥂
